Uncontrolled diabetes (if non-fasting blood sugar > mg/dl, perform a fasting blood sugar which must be =< mg/dl) Patients with controlled diabetes are allowed on study; controlled diabetes is defined as fasting blood sugar (FBS) = mg/dL or less, and patients whose FBS can be brought in this range with medical therapy are eligible for trial inclusion Poorly controlled diabetes, fasting blood sugar (FBS) >= mg/dL Acceptable blood sugar control Uncontrolled blood-sugar levels defined as HbAc > % Uncontrolled diabetes (if random blood sugar > mg/dL, perform fasting blood sugar to ensure < mg/dL) Acceptable blood sugar control: Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (fasting blood sugar > mg/dl) at screening Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus as defined by a random blood sugar of > mg/dl not being monitored by their primary care physician Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus as defined by a random blood sugar of > mg/dl not being monitored by their primary care physician Hypersensitivity to dexamethasone or corticosteroids or Equal sugar substitute Allergy to sugar substitute Diabetes type I or II, or currently on medications to reduce blood sugar
