# 🦵 Knee Osteoarthritis Severity Grading Dataset

## 📚 Context

Knee osteoarthritis is characterized by degeneration of the knee’s **articular cartilage** — the flexible, slippery tissue that cushions joints. This condition often involves changes to **subchondral bone** and **adjacent soft tissues**. It is the **most common form of arthritis** to cause knee pain and is often simply referred to as *knee arthritis*.

Other, less common forms of arthritis that may also cause knee pain include:

- Rheumatoid arthritis

- Pseudogout

- Reactive arthritis

## 📂 Content

This dataset includes **X-ray images of knees** designed for:

- **Knee joint detection**

- **Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading**

### KL Grade Descriptions:

- **Grade 0**: Healthy knee image  

- **Grade 1 (Doubtful)**: Slight joint space narrowing; possible osteophytic lipping  

- **Grade 2 (Minimal)**: Definite osteophytes; possible joint space narrowing  

- **Grade 3 (Moderate)**: Multiple osteophytes, definite joint space narrowing, mild sclerosis  

- **Grade 4 (Severe)**: Large osteophytes, significant joint space narrowing, severe sclerosis
