+
+Knee osteoarthritis is characterized by degeneration of the knee’s **articular cartilage** — the flexible, slippery tissue that cushions joints. This condition often involves changes to **subchondral bone** and **adjacent soft tissues**. It is the **most common form of arthritis** to cause knee pain and is often simply referred to as *knee arthritis*.
