Additional information about the recordings used in the PhysioNet/CinC Challenge 2000

The table below presents additional information (not made available during the challenge)
about the Apnea-ECG Database records. The first column of the table contains the record
names.

For scoring, each record was divided into one-minute non-overlapping segments. The number
of such segments is given in the second column of the table below. Each minute was classified
as either a "non-apnea minute" (tallied in the third column) or an "apnea minute" (in the
fourth column). Minutes containing either apnea or hypopnea were classified as apnea minutes.

The one-minute segments were grouped into 60-minute non-overlapping segments for each record,
and the number of these groups containing between 5 and 60 apnea minutes is tallied in the
fifth column, "hours with apnea". Hours containing 1 to 4 apnea minutes (not considered to
be clinically significant) were counted as hours without apnea for this purpose.

The apnea index (AI) is the number of apneas observed per hour, and the HI is the number
of hypopneas observed per hour. The apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) is defined as the sum of
AI and HI.

The data contained in the table were kindly provided by Dr. Thomas Penzel.
